The end of the current fiscal year is drawing near for the Fayette County Board which means the Finance committee has been working on hammering out a budget for the coming fiscal year. During Tuesday night’s monthly board meeting, Fayette County board Chairman Jeff Beckman took time during the committee reports to inform the board and those in attendance that the county has the numbers they need now to get a budget worked out and that it’s not a good situation but that they will try to get it worked out as soon as they can.
In other business at the meeting, discussion was held on the county’s tax levy resolution for tax year 2015. After a motion was made and seconded, board member Wade Wilhour questioned the levy amount being $36,000 higher this year with County Clerk Vicki Conder saying the rate is the same and Board Vice-Chairman Darrell Schaal saying the $36,000 raise in the levy comes from the change in the county’s assessed value.
Wilhour says no matter how you look at it though, it is an increase in taxes even though the rate is the same.
After much discussion, Wilhour requested a roll call vote on the motion. The measure passed by a vote of 6-5 vote with Troy Patillo, Dean Bernhardt, Glenn Gurtner, John Daniels, Joe Kelly and Schaal voting in favor of the tax levy resolution while Wilhour, Jeff Beckman, Glen Daniels, Jake Harris and Jean Finley voted against the resolution.
