Dr. Delbert G. Huelskoetter, 85 of Altamont, died at 3:45 a.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 14, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, Effingham with Rev. Dr. Roger Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Altamont. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2015 at Lutheran Care Center Chapel, Altamont. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Care Center, Altamont, The Cross Foundation, the First Baptist Church, Effingham or WJLY Christian Radio, Ramsey. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Delbert G. Huelskoetter was born on Friday, April 18, 1930 in Moccasin, rural Effingham County, Illinois to Erwin and Caroline (Niehoff) Huelskoetter. After graduating with a BS Degree in Education from Illinois State Normal University in 1948, he served in the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant during the Korean War. After his service he graduated in 1962 from the University of Illinois College of Medicine and opened the Altamont Clinic in 1963. He was a member of the Illinois State Medical Society, American Medical Association and a number of other medical organizations and service organizations. Over the years he mentored many students and contributed to many scholarships. Among his career accomplishments were a few he held close to his heart and those included the construction of Pleasant Acres in 1969, which is now Lutheran Care Center; Norie’s Yard that includes tennis courts and a gazebo (now a city park) built in 1973. In 1983 he built Frog Pond Nursery School which was named after the one-room schoolhouse he attended as a child. He was also involved in mission work both domestically and internationally. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Effingham, where he had served in a variety of capacities.
He is survived by; son, Matthew Huelskoetter and his wife Sue of Salem; daughters, Caroline Harder and her husband Rob of Altamont and Heidi Higgins of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Amanda Carpenter and her husband Scott, Robert Harder III, Abigail Higgins and Elisabeth Higgins; brother, Morris Huelskoetter and his wife Joyce of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Dolores Huelskoetter of Altamont; brother-in-law, Calvin Flesch of St. Louis, MO.
He married Skippy Mansfield in 1958 and she preceded him in death in 1994. He married Ann Dunaway in 1985 and she preceded him in death in 2012. In addition he was preceded by; daughter, Lucy, in infancy; sister, Mabel Flesch; brother, Leland Huelskoetter.
