(Springfield, IL) — A group of the unions whose political and economic influence Governor Rauner wants to cut is making sure that the holiday lights on the Capitol dome shine this year, despite the budget impasse. The Basic Crafts Council of Mid-Central Illinois will pay the electric bill that Secretary of State Jesse White had deemed an unnecessary expense with the state so short of cash. The union group’s donation comes as the Rauner-backed conservative Illinois Policy Institute is still collecting money in its online effort to pay for the lights.
