Floyd Meseke, 94, of Vandalia, passed away at 12:46pm, Saturday, November 7, 2015 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am, Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia with Rev. Jerry Bagwell officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00am until time of service. Burial will follow in Fairlawn Cemetery with military rites by Vandalia Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hour Radio or Holy Cross Lutheran Church marking of New Testament Bibles. Mr. Meseke was born December 28, 1920 in Patoka Twp. the son of George and Helena (Ehrat) Meseke.
He served in the US Army Nov. 1942- Nov. 1945 during WWII in the 11th Armored Tank Division, earning a Bronze Star; Floyd married Mildred Emma Schaal on March 29, 1943 in Louisville, KY.
Until he retired, Floyd worked on the family farm, he served on the Fayette County Farm Bureau Board, Lutheran Care Center Board of Directors, Farm Home Administration Board, and was a former chairman of Midland Area Agency on Aging. He was a life Member of the Lutheran Layman’s League, member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and the Vandalia Crawford-Hale American Legion Post # 95; he volunteered for Meals on Wheels, Evergreen Outreach, and Fayette County Hospital Red Coats.
He is survived by his wife Mildred of Vandalia; sons F. Gale Meseke and wife Helen of Shobonier and Dan Meseke and wife Vickie of Springfield, IL; daughter Ruth Ann and husband Johnnie Schappachar of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren Sarah and husband John Bohnhoff, Rachel Meseke, Kyle Schappachar and wife Jolene, Jacob Meseke, and Nicole Meseke; brothers Rev. Gilbert Meseke and wife Charlaine of Florida, Dennis Meseke and wife Evelyn of Shobonier, and George Meseke and wife Amy of Vandalia.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Rev. Ervin Meseke, Norman Meseke, Forrest Meseke, and Ray Meseke
