(Springfield, IL) — The Illinois State Supreme Court is once again ruling in favor of Philip Morris. The state’s highest court vacated an appellate court’s ruling that reinstated a ten-billion-dollar judgment against the tobacco giant. Plaintiffs were awarded the money in 2003 after claiming the company used fraudulent terms to describe their cigarettes including “light” and “low tar”. The verdict was reversed by the State Supreme Court in 2005, only to be reinstated by an appellate court last year.
