With social media use gaining in popularity in the last several years, Vandalia High School students heard a presentation on the dangers and consequences of social media including the act of sending sexual text messages that has become known as “sexting.” Fayette County State’s Attorney Josh Morrison and Vanessa Wright of SAFE spoke with students in the PE classes at VCHS recently. Morrison focused his part of the presentation on the legal ramifications that can happen when a teenager engages in using social media for something like sexting.
And when using social media, Wright says teenagers don’t always think about how something on social media can stick with them and have a long term effect on their loves, even when it comes to things like college and getting a job.
Morrison and Wright have been talking to several schools over the last couple years and have even talked to some junior high schools as kids at younger ages are getting more into the use of social media. We will talk more with Morrison and Wright tomorrow on Newscenter.
