In other business from last night’s Vandalia City Council meeting, Mayor Gottman says he has signed off on the final documents for the railroad improvements the city worked on with state organizations a few months ago. Mayor Gottman reiterated the City of Vandalia is only responsible for the paint for the project.
The City of Vandalia Public Works is getting ready for the winter months. City Public Works Director Marlin Filer says the City has received their first delivery of 15o tons of road salt in preparation for winter. Filer added that have 350 tons more in waiting when they are in need of it.
The City of Vandalia is not alone in not receiving their state funding, and one group is trying to help with that. City Clerk Peggy Bowen says she recently attended a meeting with other city clerks and no communities are getting their Motor Fuel Tax or Gaming monies from the state. Bowen says the Illinois Muncipal League is working to try and get the MFT money released—one big reason is for communities to pay for winter road salt. The state working without a budget is the reason behind the major delays.
