Governor Bruce Rauner is announcing plans to sell the James R. Thompson Center in Chicago. The Thompson Center houses about two thousand state employees, but needs millions of dollars in maintenance work. Governor Rauner says auctioning off the building would save taxpayers about six to 12 million dollars annually.
The Governor wants to take the Thompson Center to public auction and have it sold in the next year. He says many employees will be moved to other office space in Chicago, while some may be relocated to Springfield.
