The rates for the City of Vandalia’s cable provider are going up, and Mayor Rick Gottman is not pleased. The City of Vandalia received a letter from New Wave Communications on October 1st, laying out the new charges they will be rolling out. In the letter New Wave states that “one of our largest business costs is the month expense for carriage of local broadcast stations, sports channels and other cable networks. Unfortunately, the rates for some of the TV programming we provide are increase by double digits in 2016.” And, due to that, New Wave Customers will receive a November 1st rate increase. The new a la carte rates are $9.79 for the broadcast basic surcharge, $24.99 for basic cable and $45 for Basic plus expanded basic. The letter also says the Family Plus digital programming tier will increase one dollar per month, HBO and HBO The Works are increase $1 per month and Showtime would also increase $1 per month. Mayor Rick Gottman informed the Vandalia City Council he had contacted New Wave and asked that the President of the company contact him. There was some discussion of having a representative from the company potentially speak to the City Council.
