Some downtown business owners and operators know what they would like to do with the vacant lots in the 500 block of Gallatin Street. But, the issue brought up a long standing issue for one Alderman. Justin Arndt from The Money Pit in downtown Vandalia read a statement to the Vandalia City Council at Monday night’s meeting—speaking for multiple downtown business operators that would like to see the now vacant lots used for additional downtown parking.
But, Ward One Alderman Jerry Swarm says it brings up a long time issue for him—business owners and operators that part on the street in front of their businesses.
The vacant lots being talked about are, of course, from the recent demolition of two buildings. So, as the ownership of the building is up in the air with better than a dozen liens currently on the property, it will be quite some time before any final determination is made for the property.
