(Chicago, IL) — Democratic state lawmakers are pointing out the irony that services for victims of domestic violence are being cut by the state during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Chicago State Senator Heather Steans says the budget impasse has eliminated services like shelter, counseling and medical care for some 75-thousand survivors of domestic violence around the state. The Senate has passed a measure that would restore state funding to domestic violence and other human service programs despite the lack of a state budget.
