(Springfield, IL) — Governor Bruce Rauner’s plan to close several state museums at the end of the day because of the budget stalemate is being blasted by politicians and scientists. Democratic state lawmakers point out that closing the Illinois State Museum in Springfield and other facilities won’t save much money since the employees will still be paid and the facilities will still be maintained. The closings also mean that several research projects have to be moved or shut down and that researchers from around the world won’t have access to state databases.
