The St. Elmo School Board adopted their Fiscal Year 2016 budget Tuesday night following the annual budget hearing. This year’s approved budget is a balanced one And St. Elmo Superintendent Deb Philpot says they have been able to use some money saving moves such as not filling positions of teachers who left to project lower expenditures for this year. And looking back at the final numbers for Fiscal Year 2015, Philpot says despite a deficit balances showing, it was not as bad as it seemed because the deficits were caused by necessary moves such as buying four used buses.
During the hearing, Philpot gave board members information that showed the growth and depletion of fund balances over the last 11 years with much of the change in balances since 2009 being due to the proration of general state aid. And we will have more with Philpot about that tomorrow on Newscenter.
