(Springfield, IL) – What has been a nightly ritual for thousands of Illinois Lottery participants is coming to an end later this week when the lottery drops live telecasts of daily drawings. Instead of watching the numbered balls percolate in the plexiglass chamber then roll down the tube, the drawings will be done in an all-digital format with winnings posted at the lottery’s website. The drawings had been a staple on WGN-TV for 25-years, but lottery officials claim the change was necessary to save money, improve technology and inject excitement into games.
