(Carbondale, IL) — Southern Illinois University says the state budget stalemate is forcing the school to make 13-and-a-half-million-dollars in cuts that will affect student jobs and on-campus events. The cuts will hit the school’s library, student radio station and the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute. A spokeswoman says the cuts begin next month and are unavoidable because of the budget impasse as well as a funding reduction because of this year’s lower enrollment.
