(Belleville, IL) — U.S. Senator Dick Durbin visited Scott Air Force Base today and said he’s concerned that the resignation of House Speaker John Boehner could increase chances of a government shutdown at the end of the month. Durbin pointed out that during the 2013 shutdown, two-thirds of the base’s civilian workers were sent home immediately without a paycheck and the five-thousand military workers were given IOUs. Durbin said that there are about 50 Republicans in the House who are adamant about shutting down the government over the issue of funding for Planned Parenthood.
