Illinois Treasurer Mike Frerichs is urging lawmakers to quickly pass funding for the state’s MAP Grant program. MAP Grants help low income students pay for college, but money hasn’t gone out for the fall semester because of the state budget stalemate. Treasurer Mike Frerichs says some colleges are accepting MAP students, in hopes the grant will come thru eventually. But, they probably won’t be able to do that for the spring semester.
The Senate has approved 373 million dollars in grant funding, and Frerichs is asking the House to do the same.
