(Springfield, IL) — A new state law designed to allow repeat drunk drivers back behind the wheel could mean about five-thousand Illinoisans regaining their driving privileges. The “Sun-Times” reports the law allowing restricted permits for drivers who are alcohol and drug free for three years applies to nearly 51-hundred Illinoisans with four DUI convictions. The first permits under the new law will be going out soon to drivers whose vehicles are equipped with an ignition interlock device.
