The State Department of Natural Resources is asking hunters and landowners to report possible cases of E-H-D in Illinois Deer. So far, DNR has received reports of 47 suspected cases of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease, or EHD. And, at least one of the cases has been found in Fayette County, Mongtomery County and Effingham County. Spokesperson Chris Young urged the public to keep an eye out for any more.
E-H-D is a viral disease that causes a high fever in deer, but is not harmful to humans or pets. Infected deer are often found dead or dying near a water source. If you spot a sick or dead deer, you are asked to call 815-369-2414.
