(St.Louis, MO) — The Cardinals scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to rally for a 2-1 win over the Reds in St.Louis. Jhonny Peralta singled in the tying run in the frame, while Stephen Piscotty’s RBI double put the Redbirds ahead. Jonathan Broxton picked up the win in relief. Trevor Rosenthal closed it out for his 47th save. St.Louis remains four games ahead of the Pirates in the NL Central.

Meanwhile, catcher Yadier Molina has partially torn ligament in his left thumb. The team is hopeful he’ll return before October.

(Chicago, IL) — Jorge Soler smacked a pinch-hit three-run homer as the Cubs bashed the Brewers, 9-5, at Wrigley Field. Starlin Castro drove in two for the Cubs, who have won six of their last seven. Jason Hammel permitted four runs, three earned, in five innings as he moved to 9-and-6. Chicago’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot is down to four. The second of the three-game series is tonight.
