(Springfield, IL) — Taiwan is going to purchase Illinois corn and soybeans in 2016 and 2017. A letter of intent was signed by members of a Taiwanese agricultural mission and Governor Bruce Rauner and the Illinois Department of Agriculture on Friday. According to a press release, the Taiwan Vegetable Oil Manufacturers Association intends to purchase between 96 million and 107-million bushels of soybeans and 197 million bushels of corn, with an estimated purchase value of several billion dollars. The 18-member Taiwanese delegation is traveling to several states as part of a demonstration of goodwill through new trade partnerships.
