The Vandalia School Board was presented with the Fiscal Year 2016 budget at their meeting Tuesday night and with uncertainty still a commonplace for districts due to instability within the state, the estimates for the budget were done conservatively with revenues budgeted low and expenditures budgeted high. The Vandalia district has made many cost-saving measures in the last several years and this school year, moved from 4 buildings in the district down to three. And while the savings will not be immediately seen from the switch, Vandalia Superintendent Rich Well says they should begin to be seen in a few years.
With the savings the district looks to see and with the changes that have been made, Well says they hope to be able to focus on making future upgrades such as air conditioning at the high school building.
Currently, the financial picture is looking good for the district as general state aid payments at the 92% proration have been coming in on time so far this school year.
