The Mulberry Grove Jr. High softball team picked up a Regional Championship title beating St. Elmo-Brownstown 10-9 in 10 innings at the Altamont Regional Tuesday. After SEB fell behind 4-0, the Eagles rallied to tie the game at 5-5. The game would remain until SEB put 4 runs on the board in the top of the 9th inning for a 9-5 lead. Mulberry Grove would then tie the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the 9th. The game would stay tied as play was suspended for a short time due to the setting sun affecting the vision of the home plate umpire and the catcher. When play resumed, Mulberry Grove was able to push one more run across in the bottom of the 10th inning to claim the title. After the loss, St. Elmo-Brownstown Coach Tom Fedrigon says the game was a battle and he was proud of how his team played hard till the end.
And, Mulberry Grove Coach Lyndsey Beckham says coming from behind is something the team has done quite a bit throughout the season.
St. Elmo-Brownstown ends their season at 7-10 while Mulberry Grove moves on to the Paris Crestwood Sectional where they will face the host team, Paris Crestwood, at 11a.m. on Saturday morning.
