(Springfield, IL) — Officials are promoting safe practices for drivers and pedestrians who encounter trains this week in Illinois. Governor Bruce Rauner has declared September 13th through the 19th Illinois Rail Safety Week. Last year, there were 134 crossing collisions that resulted in 24 deaths and 55 injuries, according to the state. State Police remind us it’s against the law to stop on a rail crossing, or to try to cross one when safety gates are down.
