The Brownstown-St. Elmo Committee of Ten held their first meeting on Monday night as they begin work to put the issue of a possible consolidation between the two districts on the March 15, 2016 ballot. The committee consisting of Randy Mason, Kent Kistler, Michele Seabaugh, Ashley Towler, Clay Chandler, Shannon Moss, Mindy Healy, Michelle Schaal, Mandy Miller and Jake McWhorter will work towards their first deadline coming up in September in the process to have the question placed on the ballot. Each member of the Committee of Ten will look to get the signatures of 13 registered voters in their district and turn said signatures into the district office of their respective school district. The petitions will then need to be to the office of Regional Superintendent Julie Wollerman the week of September 14. Following the receipt of the petition, the Regional Office of Education will post notice of a public hearing during the next three weeks with the public hearing to be held between October 20 and 26 before a decision is made by the Regional Superintendent to move forward with the issue.
Before adjourning their meeting on Monday night, the Committee of Ten approved to hold their next meeting on October 7 at 7:30pm in the Brownstown Board Office.
