(Springfield, IL) — The state will soon require some prescription painkillers to be stored in locked bottles in an effort to reduce theft and abuse. In a one-year pilot program beginning next year, participating pharmacies will use locked bottles for medicines that contain hydrocodone, commonly known as Vicodin or Norco. Illinois is the first state in the country to test the concept of locking devices for frequently misused medications.
