State Public Health officials are reminding families to protect themselves from mosquitoes and the West Nile Virus. West Nile activity is picking up in Illinois, with the virus popping up in mosquito batches, birds and horses in 49 Illinois counties—including Fayette County. Three people have also been infected with West Nile so far—two from St. Clair County and one from Chicago. Public Health Entomologist Linn Haramis gives some advice on which types of insect repellant you should use to keep away mosquitoes that might be carrying West Nile.
You can also use repellants like picardin like Cutter Advanced or a product with oil or eucalyptus.
