(Springfield, IL) — Despite a court order for the state to start paying social service agencies, Comptroller Leslie Munger says she can’t cut checks because she can’t find the funds. Advocates for the nonprofit groups secured an order from the court to pay these service providers even though there’s no state budget in place. That order directs Munger’s office to make the first of the overdue payments by Friday. Advocates are now asking that the state be held in civil contempt.
