(Springfield, IL) — Even before the current state budget crisis, the state’s parks have fallen way behind in its to-do list of maintenance, renovations and needed improvements. A Better Government Association examination found that the Department of Natural Resources has a ten-year-old list of deferred work ranging from replacing dams to fixing trails that would cost more than 720-million-dollars to complete. There are about 735 projects on that list at about 135 sites around the state, much of it involving lodges, campgrounds, trails, bridges and roads.
