The Illinois Senate is voting to override Governor Bruce Rauner’s veto of a union backed bill. The legislation comes amidst ongoing negotiations between the Governor’s office and the larges state employees union. AFSCME workers have been without a new contract since July 1st. This bill prohibits a strike or a lockout if no agreement can be reached and sends negotiations to an arbitrator says State Senator Don Harmon.
Governor Rauner is blasting the override, saying those who voted for it are choosing special interests over taxpayers. He is urging the House to uphold the veto.
