Governor Bruce Rauner is offering a new property tax freeze proposal that includes several other components of his turnaround agenda. The plan includes a two year freeze on property taxes and more money for low income school districts. Governor Rauner says this is the most important piece of legislation that lawmakers should pass this year.
The bill also requires the state to contribute 200 million dollars a year to help cover Chicago Public Schools teach pension costs. It also lets local governments set their own prevailing wage rules and sets up local control of city, county and teach collective bargaining.
