(St.Louis, MO) — Stephen Piscotty went 3-for-4 with a go-ahead RBI single in the fifth inning as the Cardinals clipped the Pirates, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Jason Heyward plated two runs and Yadier Molina knocked in one for the Redbirds, who have won five of six to move six games ahead of Pittsburgh in the NL Central. Carlos Martinez struck out eight over eight innings of three-run ball as he improved his record to 12-and-4. Trevor Rosenthal closed it out for his 34th save.

(Chicago, IL) — Anthony Rizzo and Jorge Soler knocked in two runs apiece as the Cubs doubled up the Brewers, 6-3, at Wrigley Field. Dan Haren went five-and-a-third innings to get the win in his home Cub debut. James Russell closed it out for his first save. The Cubs have won five straight and 11 of their last 12. The two teams meet again tonight.
