Darlene M. Mason, 83, of Altamont was taken to her heavenly home on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield with her family at her side.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at Gieseking-Claggett Funeral Home, Brownstown with Bill and Judy Swindle officiating. Burial will follow at Old Loogootee Cemetery, rural Fayette County. Visitation will be for two hours prior to service time at the funeral home on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the donors’ choice.
Darlene was born on Friday, November 13, 1931 in Decatur, IL to Roy L. and Viona Pansey (May) Becker. She married Harold E. Mason on August 7, 1948 and he preceded her in death on September 28, 2010. She was affiliated with the Freedom Reigns In Christ Church, St. Elmo. She was a homemaker and in addition to raising and enjoying her family she enjoyed drawing and painting, sewing, numerous crafts, singing, and was a voracious reader. Her family can attest to her warm, gentle, caring and loving spirit that with her faith in God carried her through the many hardships that she had, but never dwelled on in her life.
She is survived by her children; Lauretta (Donald) Bauer of Altamont, Violet (Lloyd) Avery of Farina, Eddie (Bonnie) Mason of Aztec, NM, Chery (Mark) Bacon of Bloomington, Lawrence (Jan) Mason of Vandalia, and Gloria Mason of Altamont, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Opal Marie Mason and grandson, Christopher L. Foster.
