Seatbelt usage in Illinois has hit an all time high. A little more than 95 percent of Illinois drivers and front seat passengers are wearing their seat belt, up from 94 percent last year. State Department of Transportation Secretary Randy Blankenhorn says there are still a few that aren’t getting the message.
Seatbelts have been mandatory in Illinois since 1985. Just a few years ago, a new law required those in the backseat to buckle up as well.
