(Chicago, IL) — After one prominent Illinois Republican called on U.S. Senator Mark Kirk to drop plans to seek reelection, other big names in the GOP are rallying behind him. Fundraiser Ron Gidwitz says Kirk’s recent verbal gaffes make him unelectable, but former governor Jim Edgar says Kirk can survive once he demonstrates his stroke doesn’t prevent him from carrying out his duties. Congressman Peter Roskam also issued a statement of support, and other members of the Illinois delegation have reportedly turned down inquiries about challenging Kirk in a primary.
