In light of the current budget stalemate, lawmakers in the Illinois House are voting to nix their two percent pay raise. The legislature is due a salary bump, amounting to nearly $1400 a year. But, State Representative David McSweeney says that’s a luxury the state can’t afford.
The State Senate must also agree to reject the pay raise.
