(Springfield, IL) — Lawmakers from the Normal area say they were blindsided by news yesterday that the Mitsubishi plant will cease production in November. State Senator Bill Brady and Representative Keith Sommer say they are working with Governor Bruce Rauner’s office to determine if anything can be done to keep the plant that employs some 12-hundred people operating. The company says it plans to close its only U.S. plant and shift production of the Outlander Sport crossover to factories in Japan. In 2010, the state of Illinois pledged ten years of tax credits and has granted the company more than seven-million-dollars in credits since then.
