The St. Elmo School Board heard an overview of their Fiscal Year 2015 budget from Superintendent Deb Philpot at last night’s monthly meeting while also taking a look at projected numbers for the coming budget year. The Illinois State Board of Education in May put out a forecast for general state aid numbers and while the projections have the St. Elmo School District receiving more general state aid, Philpot says that doesn’t make up for the $1.5 million in aid the district has lost over the course of the last several years.
After the percentage of state aid schools received was reduced down to 89%, that percentage will now be at 92% for the coming school year.
In other business at Wednesday night’s board meeting, the board approved the resignation of Brandi Whitten as a full-time teacher effective immediately and approved the hire of Isaac Grapperhaus as a full-time teacher and also Jr. High boy’s basketball assistant coach. Also approved was a one year medical leave request for full-time teacher Elise Asher. The board then approved the move of Krista Stine from paraprofessional to full-time teacher to fill-in for Asher’s leave of absence.
