The simple, common sense measure approved by the legislature this spring and enacted into law this week could save taxpayers millions of dollars. State Senator Kyle McCarter says House Bill 3311 would, as strange as it sounds, end state aid payments to recipients who are dead.
Senator McCarter says, in the middle of Illinois’ on going budget crisis, don’t let anyone tell you that waste, fraud and abuse involving state programs doesn’t exist. The new law, which was sponsored by Senator McCarter in the Illinois Senate, requires the state to cross reference death records with public aid rolls. The legislation was originally sponsored in the House by Representative Dwight Kay.
