(Chicago, IL) — Matt Holliday hit a grand slam as the Cardinals cut down the White Sox, 8-5, in Chicago. Mark Reynolds added a solo blast for St.Louis in the opener of the two-game set. Michael Wacha improved to 11-and-3, despite giving up five runs in five innings. Trevor Rosenthal earned his 28th save.

(Cincinnati, OH) — Kyle Schwarber’s solo homer in the top of the 13th lifted the Cubs to a 5-4 win over the Reds. Schwarber also slugged a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to force extras and doubled in a run in the fifth. Jason Motte got his seventh win and Justin Grimm secured his second save. The teams play a day game today starting at 11:35 a.m.
