18 year olds can now serve alcohol at restaurants in Vandalia. The Vandalia City Council approved the change to the ordinance that now allows 18 year olds to carry, deliver, or serve alcohol in restaurants in Vandalia—those with a Class E license—until no later than 11 pm. In other words, it allows 18 year old waiters or waitresses in a restaurant to deliver the alcohol to the customer. Aldermen Ken Hubler, B. John Clark, Russ Stunkel and Dorothy Crawford voted yes while Aldermen Mike Hobler, Jerry Swarm and Joel Rebbe voted no with Andy Lester absent from last night’s meeting. That means the matter passed by a 4 to 3 vote. 18 year olds are legal to serve alcohol in the state of Illinois and Vandalia joined several other area communities—including Effingham, Hillsboro, and Carlinville—in allowing 18 year olds to serve in restaurants.
