(Carbondale, IL) — The wrecking ball is coming to the SIU campus this summer. Nine buildings dating from the 1930s and 40s are being torn down, because administrators say they’ve become too costly to maintain. Originally private homes, these buildings just northwest of the campus have been used for university offices and art studios. Demolition will cost three-hundred-17-thousand-dollars, but officials say it will save money over the next few years.
