We talk again today with former Fayette County Board Chairman Steve Knebel, who resigned from his position on the County Board at Tuesday night’s meeting. Knebel says he believes he always did his very best to watch out for the finances with the county. And, he says he believes that’s the job they are elected to do.
Knebel resigned on Tuesday after being cleared in an investigation by a special prosecutor. The incident came about after Knebel recommended the hiring of an employee to County Clerk Vicky Conder for one of two open positions. Conder did not hire the person and later the open position was eliminated in budget cuts. Conder then took the matter to State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison, who then brought in the special prosecutor to investigate the matter. Although he was able to return to his duties on the county board, Knebel decided to resign. Meanwhile, the full report of the investigation has been made available and we will have more on the report coming up on Monday during NewsCenter.
