(Springfield, IL) — State workers facing the possibility of missing a paycheck next week because of the budget impasse might be eligible for loans from employee credit unions. State Treasurer Mike Frerichs says his office is working with the credit unions to provide short-term interest free loans to state workers who are members of a credit union. The loans could be for as much as 50-percent of a worker’s normal pay and wouldn’t have to be repaid until 31-days after regular paychecks resume. Some 60-thousand state workers would be eligible.
