No state budget means no paycheck for state workers under a court ruling handed down Tuesday. A Cook County Judge ruled that without a spending plan in place, the state can’t legally pay state employees. Attorney General Lisa Madigan has south court guidance on the issue.
Some employees would be entitled to receive minimum wage under federal law, but Comptroller Leslie Munger says it would take up to a year to determine who is covered by that act. Governor Bruce Rauner’s administration is filing an appeal and is drafting legislation to guarantee state workers get paid.
