The condition of the corn and soybean crop remained about the same this past week as we hear in the weekly crop report. State Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener says 26 percent of corn is now silking. That’s about on par with last year’s progress. Twelve percent of the corn crop is rated in very poor to poor condition, 27 percent fair, 49 percent good and 12 percent excellent.
Despite the still-soggy field around the state, wheat harvest advanced to 69 percent complete. Average statewide topsoil moisture stands at one percent short, 52 percent adequate and 47 percent surplus.
