(Chicago, IL) — As the state budget impasse drags on and the effects begin to be felt, the American Civil Liberties Union is asking a federal court to keep money flowing for child protective services. There’s a hearing today where the ACLU is arguing that under a decades-old consent decree, children under the care of the Department of Children and Family Services are entitled to funding, whether there’s a budget in place or not. The ACLU sought and won a similar court order during a budget crisis in 2009.
