John Lackey gave up two runs over seven frames to take the tough loss. Down 2-1 entering the final inning, the bullpen allowed five runs to put the game out of reach. St.Louis was swept in the two-game series.

(St.Louis, MO) — After two games with the White Sox, the Cardinals return to National League play tonight as the Padres come to Busch Stadium to start a four-game set. Jaime Garcia will not make his scheduled start due to a left groin strain. The team has yet to announce a starter opposite San Diego’s Tyson Ross. First pitch is at 6:15, with the game on MLB Network.

(Flushing, NY) — Starlin Castro and Miguel Montero singled in a run apiece in the 11th to lift the Cubs to a 2-0 win over the Mets in New York. Castro’s two-out infield single broke the scoreless tie. Jon Lester struck out seven in seven innings of five-hit ball. Jason Motte earned his sixth win and Justin Grimm notched his first save. The three-game series wraps up with a day game today.
