An alleged stabbing in Witt on Monday night led to the death of one man. In a release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, it states they are investigating a death in Witt. Reports say that on Monday evening at approximately 7:50 pm, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Division received a report of a white female that was injured at the Witt City Hall screaming for assistance. The female–23 year old Kristi V. Stevens of Witt–told the caller that she had been attacked by her boyfriend–41 year old Richard D. Green–at their residence at 213 Mitchell Street in Witt. The report indicates Stevens told the caller that she had stabbed Green while protecting herself and her two year old child. The incident is said to have occurred at their residence in Witt. Law enforcement from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Nokomis Police Department responded to the city hall and met with Stevens. Steven had multiple visual injuries and advised Law Enforcement that she had stabbed Green. Law Enforcement then relocated to 213 Mitchell Street where they located Green deceased in the residence. Montgomery County Coroner Rick Broaddus and his staff responded to the residence and pronounced Green dead at approximately 8:10 pm. Steven was transported to the Hillsboro Area Hospital. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Witt Police Department, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigation Unit and the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office are continuing their investigation. No arrests have been made at this time.
