This is lightning safety awareness week and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency is reminding that “when thunder roars…..go indoors.” If you can hear rumbling, you are close enough to the storm to be struck by lightning. That’s a message that should be taken seriously says IEMA Spokesperson Patti Thompson.
Thompson also reminds that you need to take precautions once you’re inside as well. That includes staying away from water, electric utilities and landline phones since they can attract lightning during a storm.
